Large housing estates
Large housing estates developed during the 1950s to 1970s in the Federal Republic of Germany and until the end of the 1980s in the GDR. The adjustment of these areas to the requirements of their inhabitants and the change on the housing market are special challenges for a socially oriented urban renewal. Recently, larger new building areas have come into existence. In these cases, however, care is taken that the shortcomings of former large housing estates are avoided, with functional and social variety and also with ecological and urban development innovations.
