The "Hans-Böckler settlement" in Offenbach (pop. 117,500) was built in the 1950s. It consists of 19 rows of houses with 5 storeys and a nine-storey "Y house". The bad building fabric, social problems, conflicts among the tenants and too small flats led to difficulties in renting. The threat of unoccupied housing caused the owner, the Naussauische Heimstätte mbH, to extensively redevelop 13 buildings and the high-rise building.

Project description

The ecological-architectural modernisation measure covers a total of 368 flats. With the technical renovation of heating, building insulation, bathrooms and façades, increase in living space and more flexible flat layouts are to be created through extensions on the head side of the rows of houses all at once.

In cooperation with the city and the employment agency, an employment project with new jobs was realised as part of the redevelopment. The whole measure is accompanied by extensive information of the inhabitants, a survey and support of the tenants.
