Herne-Sodingen „Energy Park Mont-Cenis“

New urban district centre “under glass”

A single-family residence area, a park, an urban district centre and an NRW Ttate education academy have been created since 1990 on the site of the disused „Mont-Cenis” pit in the Herne district of Sodingen. The academy and district centre are enveloped by a wood and glass construction that creates a weather-sheltered urban space and features a roof-integrated photovoltaic system. In addition, a pit gas engine-based co-generator system has been constructed.
